When you look at popular blogs you can see that the way they write is different from other blogs. There are trends in design, in way webmasters present content and also in writing. The design serves us to held visitors as much as we can, but it will not make visitors come again to your blog. The only thing that can make visitors come again are post/articles. There are some things you need to keep in mind when you write. Here are things i suggest you:
1. Separating different parts of post/article
People are bored, there is no such thing that they have not seen on the internet. Every average internet user have seen hundreds of blogs. When they comes to your blog they first scrolls down and looks how your post looks. If it is only one big paragraph with no bold words, just title and text it looks boring so he will not spend 5 minutes to read everything. You need to separate post into more parts and let visitor have a clue about what is your post. More time visitor spends on your site that means there is bigger possibility that he will like it, remember that.
2. Make some top list
We like to have something that is number 1 or something that is high ranked in some top lists, that’s why top lists are very popular. In last year most popular posts/articles where top lists. Something like: 20 best movies of 2008, Top 30 wordpress plugins, 100 best designed blogs on internet, …. People like to read it very much. Even by the fact that these top lists are made by a single blogger and it is not something we can to believe in.
When you write a top list article/post you don’t necessarily need to write position numbers, that will be great and visitors would like it, but it is harder to write and numerate it. So if don’t have time, you don’t need to spend it on numeration.
3. Post images where ever you can
Images are the part which will give your post a life. Every book, post or newspaper looks dead without images. It’s never bad to put pics somewhere. Even if you are writing something like: “You need to click File>Open and then select your file”. You can put image with File menu and an arrow pointing at it.
4. Link to your older posts which are related
Your visitor is your king you need to hold him as longer as you can. When visitor comes to your post it is usually somebody from search engines and he is interested in the content like your article/post. Mostly, we all know by our self, we will not be satisfied by only one article, especially if it is theme about we can discus for months. That is why you need to show him everything you have related to it.
If you for example write post about Ubuntu and in other post you have written about Slackware, it will be good that you mention Slackware in Ubuntu post and make it a link to Slackware post.
It is good if you have a wordpress blog that you install plugin called wp-similar which, you have something about it here.
5. Don’t cheat your visitors
If you bury visitor with pop ups and aggressive adds, believe me he will never come again. And also don’t just go for SERP, you will have a lot of traffic to you’re blog but that won’t count much. Ensure you have very good content.
5. Editing, editing, editing
Every post/article of you is good only if you have read it 3+ times. When we make it and after read it, it looks stupid, than we need to edit and make it better. Than read it again and again. Repeat that until you have a perfect post/article.
6. Always do spellchecking
If you have misspelled something than it is harder to get visitors. Every new CMS or blog software like joomla and wordpress have spellchecking so don’t be lame and check and correct everything. Blogs or sites with typos are looking very unprofessional and you don’t want that.
The software isn’t finished until the last user is dead.
